Abstract
Since the earliest concepts of clear aligner orthodontics, nothing has impacted tooth movement more than adding attachments to teeth. Numerous studies have indisputably proven that the size, shape, and location of attachments on teeth play a crucial role in the biomechanical movement of teeth, thus affecting case expression. Studies have also given us insight that specific attachment materials and the attachment templates themselves play a role in attachment accuracy. Flash around attachments likely causes some attachment slipping affecting an aligner's ability to move a tooth. In this lecture we will examine what types of attachment shapes create the most accurate movements, when in treatment we should use a specific shape and learn what new techniques are on the rise.
