Endodontic File Systems: How to Maximize Efficiency and Safety

After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recall points-of-failure in endodontic instrumentation.
- Consider how different endodontic file motions can impact efficiency and safety of instrumentation.
- Recognize how an integrated system (torque sensor + apex locator + endodontic motor) improves length-control and patient outcomes.
Abstract
Rotary and reciprocating file systems have revolutionized endodontic instrumentation. However, it can be overwhelming to know which characteristics to look for in a file system. Which characteristics improve efficiency and safety? Which characteristics are beneficial for different root morphologies? This presentation reviews points of failure in endodontics, key file characteristics, and an overview of literature on cleaning and shaping strategies. This presentation will help clinicians critically analyze and strategize for optimal root canal instrumentation.

Lauren Kuhn Nuth, DMD, MSD
Dr. Kuhn is a graduate of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Medical University of South Carolina (MSD-Endodontics). She is passionate about education and has been teaching part-time at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry since January 2020. She has published case-based research in the Southeast Case Research Journal and co-authored literature reviews in Dental Materials and The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics. Dr. Kuhn is a board certified endodontist and treats patients from the Greater Twin Cities of Minnesota.
