Why You Need to Learn IV Sedation for Your Dental Practice

After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand how incorporating intravenous moderate sedation will help your practice grow and improve the experience for all of your patients.
- Become aware of the typical educational requirements in each state for obtaining a moderate sedation permit.

- Know how to set up your practice for moderate sedation and what you will need to obtain.
Abstract
More than 30% of the U.S. population avoids regular dental care due to fear and anxiety stemming from past experiences. These patients are in desperate need of preventive and restorative dentistry but will delay treatment until they are in severe pain or have a significant infection. Achieving profound local anesthesia in these cases can be both challenging and inadequate, which only reinforces the patient’s long-held dread of going to the dentist. If patients were aware that various options were available to them to make their experience in the dental office relaxing and comforting, and without pain, many of them would be seeking care from dental practitioners who are trained in and implement the techniques of intravenous moderate sedation.
In this course, we will discuss the many reasons why intravenous moderate sedation will increase the number of patients seeking your services, as well as make longer, more complex dental procedures - such as multiple restorations, implants, and endodontic procedures - less stressful for your new and existing patients. We will also discuss what type of training, equipment, and preparation is required to obtain a moderate sedation permit from your state dental board. We will also give you advice on how to set up your office and implement moderate sedation in your practice.

Author Bio
Jay B. Reznick, DMD, MD
Dr. Reznick is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He received his undergraduate biology degree from CAL-Berkeley, dental degree from Tufts University, and his MD degree from the University of Southern California. He did his internship in general surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery at L.A. County-USC Medical Center.
John B. Roberson, DMD, FACD, FICD, FICOI, FIAOMS
Dr. Roberson received his DMD from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, where he served as president of the American Student Dental Association and received the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons award for outstanding performance and excellence in undergraduate oral surgery. After completing his residency in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center–where his training included dentoalveolar surgery, anesthesia, implants, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma, reconstructive surgery, TMJ, oral medicine & pathology, cleft lip & palate surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, and skin rejuvenation–Dr. Roberson started his practice in Hattiesburg. Dedicated to continuing education and adhering to industry standards, Dr. Roberson is a member of the American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, American Dental Association, Mississippi Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Mississippi Dental Association, and the South Mississippi Dental Association. He is an active member of Heritage United Methodist church and enjoys spending time with his wife, Melanie, and their daughter and son, Maggie and Boone.
