Abstract

Advances in dentistry, like almost every aspect of our lives, is moving at an alarming speed.   Yet, we still have to pay attention to the basics of esthetic dentistry to complete our cases with excellence.

Sure, there have been advances in design and manufacture of the burs and polishers we use daily, but the real advance, is the disposable diamond or polisher.  These well made diamond burs allow you to prep faster and more accurately due to the fact that they do not get clogged with debris that is baked on during the sterilization process.  Polishers for resin, ceramic and zirconia exist that are inexpensive and disposable, so we get the best polish quickly.  We routinely use our needles, carpules, suction tips etc once, and dispose them because they harbor bacteria and are not easily reusable..  New companies are offering these burs so that you can be assured to make clean, fast and accurate preparations with out having to push so hard like we have all done in the past, as we tried to use our expensive diamond burs 5-10 times or more.
