Educational Objectives

After completing this program, participants will be able to:
• Anatomically prepare teeth resulting in adequate space for proper thickness and contour of restorative materials
• Recognize how interproximal taper, occlusal surface area, and axial wall length affect retention and resistance
• Refine the marginal finish line to maximize the fit of the definitive restoration
• Indicate and contraindicate for different materials, such as high strength ceramics and zirconia used in fabrication of aesthetically beautiful and functional dental restorations will be discussed
• Express efficient, predictable adjustment and polishing techniques for successful delivery of ceramic restorations 

Abstract

*1.5 CREDIT COURSE* - This live 90-minute lecture/hands-on program is designed to introduce simple and consistent techniques for the preparation of natural dentition when full coverage restorations are indicated. 
Indications and contra-indications for esthetic indirect restorative materials will also be reviewed and proper clinical adjustment, polishing techniques, and armamentarium will also be discussed and performed by the participant.

David Avery, CDT

David Avery, CDT, Director of Professional Services at Drake Precision Dental Laboratory in Charlotte, N.C. received his AS degree in dental laboratory technology from Durham Technical College in Durham, North Carolina in 1976. He achieved his Certified Dental Technician status in 1986. During his career, he has served as a private technician, full service laboratory owner and since 1986, a member of the Drake executive management team. He has an ongoing academic relationship with undergraduate and postgraduate dental students at the University of North Carolina, Medical College of Georgia, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, Tufts University and West Virginia dental schools. He is also a visiting lecturer at the GPR and Oral Medicine programs at Carolina’s Medical Center, Wake Forest University, University of Virginia Medical Center, as well as numerous residency programs within the US Veteran’s Administration and Armed Forces. He has published in numerous laboratory and clinical journals and has presented more than 700 scientific programs for local, regional and national professional clinical and laboratory organizations covering every aspect of Dental Laboratory Technology and Communication. He is a board member of the Dental Technician Alliance of The American College of Prosthodontists. He serves on the editorial boards of “Compendium of Dental Education”, “The Journal of Dental Technology”, “Inside Dental Technology” and “Inside Dental Assisting”. He also serves as Dental Laboratory Technology Editor for the ”Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry” and as Continuing Education Director for “Inside Dental Technology” magazine. He is a Faculty member at the Pankey Institute for Continuing Dental Education.

Robert A. Lowe, DDS

Robert A. Lowe, DDS, FACD, FADI, FAGD, FASDA, FICD, is a cosmetic dentist and assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. He works as an educator, author, and consultant for several dental manufacturers. Dr. Lowe is a recipient of the Gordon Christensen Outstanding Lecturer Award.
